Hi there,
With everything going on in the world, it’s hard not to feel rage, the urge to lash out, to do unto others, to let thoughts of revenge take over. And while I think some of our elected representatives could use more of that fire to get things done, I personally need to protect myself from it. I don’t want to be contaminated by hate and cruelty.
Last week, walking through the streets of NYC, I was reminded that fashion can help with this. A sea of pale pink washed over store windows, ushering in the new Spring collections (I know, not groundbreaking). But as I browsed, a feeling of hope, innocence, and childhood took over, pushing aside whatever anger I’d been brewing, even if just for a few minutes. I wanted to buy everything. I wanted that feeling.
In a world fueled by aggression and testosterone-driven dominance, maybe wearing pale pink—a color tied to femininity, nostalgia, and cotton candy—can be a way to stay grounded in kindness while making it through the madness. As if to say that real ballers are the ones who, even in the face of adversity and violence, choose softness, peace, justice, and centeredness as their power move. They listen. They observe. And while they are no pushovers, they don’t retaliate—they act with urgency, intent, strength, integrity, and respect. They help each other and those affected with compassion and steadfastness.
This is the energy I need right now—so I don’t drown in my own ire or overwhelm. I made 4 boards with everything pink that I saw and loved in NYC last week (see below, I will be ordering most of them) with a bonus item in the end (I didn’t see that one in NYC but it’s a good one to grab if it’s still available by the time this newsletter goes out). I’m going to be a baller and wear pink.
Apropos of this theme — Happy Galentine’s Day and Happy Valentine’s Day! Sending love,
Patricia
